American Memory

American Memory

American Memory presents Quilts and Quiltmaking in America, 1978-1996, a treasure trove of audio and video recordings, and photographs, of quiltmakers all across the country. This online exhibition showcases materials from two collections at the Library of Congress' American Folklife Center: The Blue Ridge Parkway Folklife Project, and the "All American Quilt Contest" sponsored by Lands' End and Good Housekeeping. Together these collections provide a glimpse into America's diverse quilting tradition. American Memory is presented by the American Folklife Center, at the Library of Congress, which was created by Congress in 1976 "to preserve and present American Folklife."

Our links list comes from The Alliance's board and membership, who together represent many different elements of the quilt world. They are quiltmakers, teachers, authors, scholars, business owners, designers, curators, folklorists, and professors — so their favorite sites are diverse and wide-ranging.

In mid-2008, Google returned more than 27 MILLION quilt-related websites, with more being added every day. We can't possibly claim to review them all, but here are some of our favorites for your "quilt surfing!"
